Software developer

Software developers design, build and test computer programmes.   Computer programmes are everywhere -  in business, for data collection, to work out and pay wages, to operate machinery and help us to design our products and structures - in education, supporting teachers to bring exciting lessons into the classroom, managing exam entries and results, letting parents know if you need more dinner money!  And we need them for almost everything else we do at home and in our leisure time.  Software developers are creative people with technical skills – they may be designing games, developing apps or could be designing a new system for managing patients health records.  Companies may ask for a degree in an IT based subject, Maths and IT qualifications are a good start and you can study many IT subjects independently.Software developers can earn between £20,000 to £70,000 per  year
