About Katie...
Who am I?
"I am conscientious and have good attention to detail. These traits help me in the area of CPU debug, since tracking down the point of failure for tests can require a lot of focus."
What do I do?
"I work in the area of CPU (Central Processing Unit) testing. This involves writing code to test CPU designs and debugging test failures when a CPU design does not behave as expected. The thing I enjoy most about my job is all of the amazing people I work with - it is a really great environment to develop my knowledge! The starting salary for my role was £34000."
How did I get here?
"I've always really enjoyed puzzles and problem solving, so after doing my research and taking numerous careers quizzes, I decided an engineering subject was right for me!"
The life I live
"In my spare time, I play video games with my friends and socialise.I also spend time volunteering as an instructor for Code First Girls. This teaching allows me to develop my communication skills as well as inspiring the next generation of women in tech!"
My typical day
"In my role of CPU testing, I spend most of my time debugging test failures, describing failures to the hardware designers and adding new code to our test software. I also spend some time in meetings, talking to my teammates and replying to emails."
My qualifications
"I am from Scotland and took Higher maths, physics, computing, French and English in S5. In S6 I took Higher art, Advanced Higher physics and maths, and an Open University module called \"Engineering the Future\" (as part of the Young Applicants in Schools Scheme (YASS)).I then went on to study a BSc in AI and Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh, moving to Cambridge to work for Arm after graduation."
