Research Scientist
We are constantly trying to find answers to both big and small questions – finding a cure for cancer, preventing bananas rotting in transport, making sure water is safe to drink, understanding weather patterns, developing a robot that can think like a human being. Research scientists plan and carry out experiments and investigations to increase our knowledge of everything that is around us and help us find solutions to everyday problems. Research scientists may share their knowledge through teaching, at conferences or in scientific journals. There is a science subject for every interest and you will be doing innovative and important work. You may be the one who finds the answer to a problem that will improve people’s lives! Research scientists may be curious, logical and analytical. They will usually have a degree in the subject that they are researching, and maths and science qualifications will help them get this. Research scientists can earn from £14,000 to £60,000 per year.
