Research and development manager

Research and development managers lead teams of engineers, scientists and technical staff to create new products and services, as well as improving existing ones. They work in all sectors and support businesses to be creative, competitive and leaders in their field of expertise. Think about Apple products, Ferrari or Haribo and managing their product design teams! Research and development managers support their teams work - monitoring budgets, safety requirements and client demand, as well as meeting deadlines for product or services. They will recruit staff, and assess performance, analyse the teams results and present them. Good maths and English qualifications are important, as well as IT skills. Being a good problem solver is also important. A degree and several years experience in a relevant field such as engineering, chemistry, medicine or technology is needed for this role. Research and development managers earn between £25,000 and £65,000 per year.
