About Daisy ...

Who am I?

"As an innovator, I am confident and creative: a key area of my career and my life is solving problems, especially in transport, diversity and inclusion. Through this, I am open minded and can solve problems and challenges, and am strong-minded and take charge to achieve my goals. I am good at influencing people and enjoy being the leader; taking charge to develop excellent projects and programmes. "

What do I do?

"I am a Rail Knowledge Transfer Manager, so I work across transport in rail for KTN to help innovators achieve good outcomes. That can include helping projects connect into the railway, finding funding, leading events and more; to get innovations in sustainability, equality, passenger experience and more into the sector. I am also the transport Diversity Champion. The thing I most enjoy is the freedom to explore new ideas and to meet new people. The starting salary for my role is £35,000. "

How did I get here?

"I initially trained as a teacher and then realised it wasn't the right job for me. I then became an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead for Community Rail Lancashire, and developed programmes for young disabled people, young women, young LGBT+ people and more to connect them into the railways and railway employment opportunities. I created the UK's first Autism Friendly Railway Line and I've won multiple awards including Best Community Project from the National Autistic Society and Northern Power Woman Future List 2020. I was a 2020 UK Representative to the Commonwealth Parliament. I am the Vice Chair of ITS UK's inclusive mobility forum and a board member for the Community Rail Network; both voluntary roles. "

The life I live

"I enjoy painting, especially with acrylics, and love anything active like paddle boarding, riding horses or skiing. One thing people don't know about me is that I have volunteered for the National Trust as a room guide at Lyme Park and for Riding for the Disabled, assisting children with disabilities in accessing riding for physical and emotional health "

My typical day

"I will usually have multiple calls and video calls (outside COVID times there would also be physical meetings). I also answer emails and spend time at my computer. I discuss projects with innovators, academics at universities, the government, funders, companies and more. I look for new ideas and ways to promote new work. "

My qualifications

"I have a BSc (hons) in Geography and Qualified Teacher Status. On the path to my current job I have done lots of training courses including Chartered Management Institute Managing Diversity & Inclusion Level 5, Prince2 Project Management Foundation, Leadership in the Workplace, Understanding Autism, Dementia Friend, Makaton Sign and Symbol Language, Enhance the UK Disability Training and much more.
