About Lois...

Who am I?

As a Process Engineer I am constantly solving problems by developing solutions, I find it really motivating to make things better. I am quite in tune to people around me and tend to know how other people are feeling about things, this makes working in a team and coordinating people much easier. I find organising things really fun, inside and outside of work. I think the personality types match me perfectly!

What do I do?

I'm the engineering on a team of scientists and specialists focussed on developing a new medicine for patients across the world. As a team we tackle different challenges that come up during development and ensure we make the perfect medicine. I love how I get to work in a team and problem solve!

How did I get here?

I’m one of the few who’ve known for a long time what job I wanted. I loved problem-solving and maths at school, and I knew I wanted to work in healthcare to help people. My mum’s friend bought me a magazine about women in engineering, and I realised there were way more options than I thought! After looking into different paths, I found that chemical engineering was the right fit. I chose the A-levels to match, and then the University of Sheffield, which has a specialist focus in pharmaceutical engineering, to guide me toward the job I have now.

The life I live

Something really great about my life is that my team at work is full of women, all around my age, so we have lots of fun and I always feel supported by them - it's great to see us fight the normality! Outside of work I like to be busy, I enjoy cooking, playing squash and having fun with friends and family.

My typical day

My days are split up between analysing data on the computer, doing experiments in the lab to solve problems I may see and taking calls with manufacturing sites across the world!

My qualifications

A Levels: Maths, Further Maths, Physics Chemical Engineering (MEng) with a Year in Industry at The University of Sheffield.
