About Ola...
Who am I?
I feel my personality types fit closely with both who I am and the work I do. My Trainer qualities show in how I enjoy helping others improve, sharing knowledge, and simplifying complex information, while my Coordinator traits reflect my organised, compassionate, and supportive approach to working with people; my Investigator side also helps me think logically, solve problems, and understand different types of information.
What do I do?
As a Data Science Degree Apprentice, the main things I do involve using data, technology and problem-solving to support real business challenges while also studying towards my degree. My work includes analysing data, building technical skills in areas such as Python and analytics, and contributing to projects that help organisations make better decisions and improve the way they work. Alongside my role, I also enjoy supporting and inspiring others through apprenticeship outreach and ambassador work. The outcome of what I do is not only delivering value through data-driven work, but also helping more young people see that apprenticeships are a powerful route into successful careers. What I enjoy most about my job is the combination of learning and impact I get to keep developing my skills while working on meaningful projects and encouraging others to believe in their own potential.
How did I get here?
My route to my current role started with studying Computer Science, Maths and Chemistry at A-level, which helped build both my technical thinking and problem-solving skills. After that, I completed an IBM Futures Scheme internship during my gap year, and then began my apprenticeship at PA Consulting as a Software Engineering Consultant Degree Apprentice while studying BSc Digital and Technology Solutions. During my apprenticeship, I had the opportunity to take on a range of roles and experiences, including work connected to software engineering, digital resilience, data, prompt engineering and project support, before transitioning into Data Science, which is where my passion truly grew. I wanted to choose a career in STEM because I have always enjoyed problem-solving, technology and understanding how things work, but I was especially drawn to the way STEM can be used to make a real impact. I was inspired by the opportunity to keep learning, work on meaningful challenges, and use my skills to help organisations and people make better decisions. Along the way, the variety of projects, clients and people I have worked with has shown me that a STEM career is not only exciting and innovative, but also a powerful way to create change and inspire others coming after you.
The life I live
In my spare time, I enjoy going into schools to share my experiences and encourage young people to consider apprenticeships and careers in STEM. I also enjoy playing football, watching day-in-the-life videos, listening to music, and playing video games. Before moving to the UK, I used to play golf, which is something I really enjoyed and hope to get back into. Something people may find interesting is that I enjoy both the social side of inspiring others and the quieter side of recharging through music, content, and sport.
My typical day
A typical day at work for me often starts with checking my emails, reviewing my schedule, and joining daily stand-ups with my team. I spend much of my time at my computer writing and testing code, analysing data, pair programming, and working with tools such as Python, PowerPoint, GitHub/GitLab, and Teams to support projects and collaborate with others. Alongside my work, I also study for my degree once a week through a hybrid learning model, and my university modules link closely to what I do in my role. The bigger picture of the projects I work on is to use technology and data to solve real problems, improve the way organisations work, and create outcomes that have real-world impact, while also helping me grow personally and build towards my future career goals.
My qualifications
After completing my GCSEs, I went on to study A-levels in Computer Science, Maths and Chemistry, which helped me build strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills. I then took part in the IBM Futures Scheme internship during my gap year, which gave me valuable insight into the professional world and strengthened my interest in technology and STEM careers. After that, I began my Degree Apprenticeship at PA Consulting while studying for a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions. I started on the Software Engineering pathway and later transitioned to the Data Analysis pathway, which better matched my interests and strengths in data science, analytics and problem-solving.
