About Ella...
Who am I?
"The personality types that I got were manager, coordinator, and trainer. I like to be organised which is a value across all 3 personalities. Other qualities that I share with a manager is that I am motivated – I often set goals for each day which I aim to achieve to keep a sense of direction and end goals for a task.
"I also enjoy working in a team and getting various inputs into a task as I enjoy understanding and collaborating with different perspectives. I do think however I enjoy working independently on certain tasks and like getting help from others when I don’t have as much knowledge on a topic."
What do I do?
"My main project is working on a submission to the government for a new medicine. I complete a lot of research into different parts of the project for my team such as looking at previous submissions and how they have collected their data and what data has been used in different sections of the submission.
"I am also working on models and finding the relevant data that needs to be inputted into the model. I really enjoy how varied my job is – every day is different, and no project is the same. I also have lots of different projects on the go so there is always lots of things to be done."
How did I get here?
"I’ve always had an interest in healthcare and wanted a career that combined analytical thinking with real-world impact. During A-levels, I enjoyed the logical nature of maths, which led me to study economics at university.
"As part of my degree, I had the opportunity to complete a placement year, and I chose the pharmaceutical industry to experience how economics influences market access and decision-making. This role has allowed me to see the direct connection between data-driven insights and improving patient outcomes in the UK."
The life I live
"I really enjoying exercising in my free time. I like going for walks after work or often going to the gym. It allows me to switch off from the stresses of work or everyday life. I also love meeting up with my friends, for example going for coffee or shopping.
"Something that some people don’t know is that after finishing my A-levels, I went interrailing with a friend and travelled to 14 different countries, experiencing so many amazing cultures and places. It was an incredible adventure that has sparked my passion for travel and I hope to travel more after university as there is so much out there to be explored!"
My typical day
"When I first log on to my computer, I read my emails and messages. As part of my role I manage an email inbox for the whole team so I send messages that come from external bodies such as the government to the relevant people. I will then make a to-do list of my tasks and deadlines and spend time working on my smaller projects and learnings such as market research for other colleagues.
"A big project I am working on is a submission for a new medicine so I will spend time researching the disease area and processes to do with the project and submission, for example looking at the clinical and economic data or shadowing meetings with external vendors to understand how they collaborate with the company and my role."
My qualifications
"I completed my A levels in maths, economics and geography. I then went on to do Economics at university but I always enjoyed the applied side of the degree and knew I wanted to have that in the industry I went into.
"I completed an internship at Pfizer after my first year of university and really enjoyed the work and industry so knew I was keen to apply to placement positions in similar areas."
