About Elisha ...

Who am I?

"I am absolutely a coordinator and a manager - I think these qualities blend very well together and I use them all the time in software. Organisational skills are key to having a happy and healthy team and it's a really straightforward way of showing that you can manage your time and respect others time too. I'm an investigator which is also a key part of being a software developer - I'm always investigating the issue and finding the root of the problem before I start coding anything because I need to make sure I'm solving the problem rather than just what people think the problem might be."

What do I do?

"Most of my days are spent problem solving and them implementing the solution in my code. I love being able to think creatively and logically about problems and working with my team to solve things together that we never would have been able to on our own. As part of a consultancy company I get the opportunity to work with many different companies on many different projects so there's lots of variety to my role too. Starting Salary: £32,000 Main Benefits: Flexible working conditions."

How did I get here?

"I loved maths and science growing up and took them all the way to university. When I graduated I knew I wanted a break from academia but didn't want to move away from learning or problem solving. I had completed my masters project in computational physics and had some knowledge of Python so applied to Capgemini Engineering and now I'm a software engineer: I'm definitely still problem solving and learning a lot!"

The life I live

"I like to keep active and play with my local hockey club. I'm also a keen gardener and love to grow flowers - you will often find me pestering my colleagues with pictures of the latest updates from my garden."

My typical day

"My typical day is mostly sat at my laptop coding, but also taking meetings with my clients and colleagues. I'll often have meetings with my client to try and understand the requirements of the application that I'm working on and then for me to feedback any updates and support I need. I'll also have meetings throughout the day with my colleagues to discuss any problems I'm having or to get some extra eyes to try and help me fix a bug."

My qualifications

"A Levels: Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Physics 1st Class with Hons Chemistry and Molecular Physics Msci - University of NottinghamYou might notice no formal computer science qualifications here!"
