About Beth...
Who am I?
"I feel like I match quite closely with the personality types listed. Communication is one of the key skills that I use in my current role, alongside acting as the co-ordinator. Lots of my projects have only been a success due to good communication. I also can sometimes act as the trainer as I have helped to mentor graduates in our team."
What do I do?
"I look after a team of engineers and we try to make improvements in the way we renew and look after our track on the railway. We look at trying to develop innovations and processes that improve the way we work. I really enjoy that every day is different, and I get to work with a team and solve engineering problems creatively. I joined my team on the graduate scheme which has a starting salary of around £30,000."
How did I get here?
"I studied Maths and Physics at school and went on to study Mechanical Engineering at university. I studied for 4 years and then joined Network Rail on the engineering graduate scheme. From there I have worked as a Project Engineer and Senior Engineer. "
The life I live
"In my spare time I like to go climbing and enjoy baking. I also have a lovely cat and am a big Taylor Swift fan!"
My typical day
"In a typical day I spend lots of time meeting with my colleagues to discuss how we are getting on with projects. I also can co-ordinate a group of people to develop better processes to manage track, and spend some time at my computer replying to emails. There are no two days the same though and on another day I could be out on track trialling some new technology."
My qualifications
"A Level Maths, Physics, Further Maths and ChemistryMasters in Mechanical Engineering"
