About Emma...
Who am I?
"I was matched to Coordinator, Quality Controller and Trainer, I feel these fit well with my personality, I am an extremely organised person, I like to know what I am doing and when I am doing it, I am a big fan of lists :) and getting things done. I also like to ensure my work is of high standard. I enjoy helping people and have often helped train new people in the team and making them feel at ease. I build good relationships with everyone I work with and very much enjoy working with others but also enjoy being independent in my role and getting on with my work."
What do I do?
"I work for a Contract Research Organisation (Clinical Trials Company), before a drug is available to the public, it needs to go through an extensive testing process to ensure the drug is safe and does what it is intended to do. My company runs the clinical trials to test the drug before it is approved to go to market. My role as a Principal Recruiter is to hire people into the business. I partner with my client groups/departments/countries to fulfil their recruiting needs, over the years I have recruited for a number of departments/countries and roles including, Clinical, Project Delivery, Finance, Facilities. Currently I recruit Clinical Team Managers - these are the people who run the clinical part of the study and are responsible for the team and the overall delivery of the clinical operations."
How did I get here?
"I started at PPD in 2009 as a Recruitment Coordinator, this role involved scheduling interviews, preparing contracts, dealing with people in various countries to ensure interviews were scheduled in a timely manner. Over the years I have been promoted to Senior Recruitment Coordinator, Associate Recruiter where I was given my own departments/countries to recruit for, I was then promoted to Recruiter and then Senior Recruiter and more recently Principal Recruiter in November 2022. I have been with the company for over 13 years and have worked hard to build great working relationships with all my groups and becoming someone they trust to fulfill their recruiting needs."
The life I live
"I have 2 young children and they are my number one priority.I also do a Martial Art called Kuk Sool Won, this is a Korean Martial Art founded 65 years ago. I started this in 2007 and have worked my way up from white belt to second degree black belt and currently working towards my third degree black belt which I will hopefully be awarded in the summer of 2024. I also help teach and enjoy teaching young people and adults the different aspects of the art and seeing them develop and grow in confidence. This isn't about fighting, it is about respect, etiquette, mediation, forms (movements), self-defense techniques, weapons and so much more."
My typical day
"I begin my day by answering emails, I often have a number of meetings throughout the day speaking to candidates and talking through the positions and finding out about their motivations and experience. Once a candidate has had a successful interview, I put together an offer and call the candidate to provide this to them. A big part of my role is ensuring the candidate has a good experience. I also speak to the team and we work together on projects/training. I speak to my hiring managers, ensuring their recruiting needs are met and work on building strong working relationships across the business."
