About Ashley...

Who am I?

"My role is a mix between skills and jobs. Being co-ordinated plays a massive part in this, being organised and making plans to follow helps massively. Influencer fits in with my training role, working and blending with peoples personality differences to adapt for learning. With in my role I am always developing myself and learning more too. "

What do I do?

"As a vehicle damage consultant we get a mix within the Automotive industry. We complete work around vehicle damage and vehicle safety, we value vehicles if they cannot repair. I also design and deliver training to our staff to give them the skills we need to keep our customers safe. The best part of my role is the variety of work I come across. I enjoy bringing the training to life and watching the progression of our staff within their own role. "

How did I get here?

"I started at Solus in 2017, I was phone based at the time - talking on the phone to customers doing damage assessments. I spent time in the workshop with our engineers, repairing vehicles, panel repair and painting. After maternity leave and a pandemic I eventually started my development path. I interviewed for my current role which at the time was to assist with technical questions from other staff members. The role was brand new and there was only me and my lead on the team, this quickly developed and we expanded our team following the work we done over a 10 month period and are still growing. My Lead is my mentor he has invested so much time and development in me to give me the skills and advice I needed to develop. This is still ongoing but I am on my own right path to where I need to be. My end goal is to become a Repair Consultant within engineering and align this with training. "

The life I live

"I enjoy time with my little girl and husband, we spend days out exploring and long walks with our Husky who is a never-ending energy source. We enjoy car shows, in particular classic cars. We have a MK2 Ford Fiesta from 1986 which is a passion of ours and luckily our little one loves race cars. We restored our little Fiesta; doing this I learnt so much I didn't think I could do but pushed myself to weld, paint, refurbish etc.I was also nominated for an award for the 30% Women in the Automotive industry recently, I didn't win the award but the nomination was enough for me to feel empowered within the industry to better myself and do more."

My typical day

"I have stepped back from the engineering side for the time being as we have a training project running over the coming months. We have designed this to fit in line with what we need and how people learn and develop, although the people in the office are not engineers they need basic technical and repair knowledge to fulfil their job. We deliver this whilst making it fun. We do regular coaching and development and make changes based on feedback. Our main aim is to make our staff feel empowered and give independence and confidence whilst working. this will also keep our customers safe which is our main purpose. These people can then look to go on their own development path if they choose to do so. "

My qualifications

"13 GCSE including English, Maths and Science Business Management Qualification "
