About Kana...

Who am I?

"I often come across as a highly organised and execution orientated person, which my experience working in Bloomberg has shaped me into. My current job role requires me being on top of things not to miss deadline, but it doesn't mean that I don't get creative. Outside of work, I am very passionate in performing arts, especially dancing - love choreographing and coming up with creative ways to entertain others. That gets translated into some of my daily work, to think outside box for maximising outcome with most efficient and enjoyable way possible. "

What do I do?

"I am Global Chief Operating Officer (COO) in one of Sales division in Bloomberg, directly reporting to the global head of Specialist Sales - managing over 500 people globally. My primary goal is to help each business head drive their strategy successfully, and run each business in most effective way possible. The best thing about my job is to learn strategy building from the beginning till the end, as I help to put ideas into actions. In order to achieve it, I need to work with many different stakeholders in our company - \"network to get things done\" is my strong belief to be successful in a role like mine, which allows me to see things from various different people's perspectives. "

How did I get here?

"I started working in Bloomberg 7 years ago, straight after finishing my Master in International Peace and Security at King's College London. Without having any background in finance, I started working in customer facing role - where I became a Team Leader for 2.5 years. After that, I became a relationship manager for Tier 1 banks in London - which introduced me to the world of Sales. Client facing experiences I had eventually led me to be successful when I internally applied for this current role of leading Sales Operation in one of Sales division within Bloomberg. Alongside this, I've been leading D&I Community in Bloomberg so called Bloomberg Pan Asian Community in EMEA. "

The life I live

"I like dancing, especially social dancing where it involves dancing with others. At university, I was part of university dance society where I spent majority of my spare time for, competing and performing across the UK. Hence I always like going to watch some shows in different theatres in London. I also am a qualified scuba diver, the deepest I've dived was almost 40m - especially into Wreck diving and Cave diving. "

My typical day

"My typical day at work is a mixture of meeting/jumping on zoom calls, as well working on several different reporting to keep all stakeholders in the loop of on-going projects. For example, we are launching a new product - in the process of launching a new product, Sales are required to go through multiple questions and preparations; what are features of products, what marketing materials we can give to those who are interested, what kind of launching events we should do to approach right universe of audience, how to record key information about potential clients, what is the expected sales in each region, how to handle contract related questions so on. I will not know the answer to all the questions and challenges, but I will centralise and facilitate conversations between different departments to make the overall process as efficient as possible. "
