About Vanessa...
Who am I?
"Campaigner: This personality type fits my role, because I have a lot of deliverables that are time-sensitive; being able to submit everything on time to the best quality is key for my role. As my role also includes a lot of team-work and problem solving, I very much enjoy helping people work together and in doing so come up with creative solutions to be please our customers.Communicator: This personality type fits my role, because I work with people from different disciplines and projects, so it's important I am able to communicate information to different people effectively to make sure I have all the information I need to complete my project deliverables. As my role also includes a lot of problem solving, it's important that I always remain open-minded to get the best solution.Coordinator: This personality fits my role, because I have to be very organised, which fits very well with matching the campaigner type; providing a quality service and deliver what our customers need is a massive part of this, as it directly affects people taking trains daily."
What do I do?
"I complete deliverables on projects that help to design and protect the overhead lines that supply power to trains so that they can run - there are so many exciting projects that you get to be a part of, especially when it comes to creating something completely new for the industry. I also occasionally go out to rail sites to see trains up close and learn how they operate.I would say the best parts of my role are thar I get to build up my knowledge, try so many new things, challenge myself and help the wider community by being part of the teams that help improve the railway."
How did I get here?
"Post-GCSE I continued on to study A-Levels at my secondary school’s sixth form. I wanted to go to university, so A-levels gave me the great opportunity for me to study the subjects that I enjoyed in much more depth to prepare me for a degree. I studied the following subjects which were relevant to my degree course:•\tElectronics•\tPhysics•\tMaths•\tApplied IT - Single Award (AS)After this, I studied BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering at Coventry University. Between my first and second years, I started working at Siemens as an Intern, as was invited to join back up again after my final year of University."
The life I live
"In my spare time I enjoy reading and playing music. I can play multiple instruments including: violin, piano, ukulele, and can sing as well."
My typical day
"On a day to day basis, I work in an office, but I sometimes go on rail sites to perform surveys. I currently perform calculations and program safety devices to make sure that the overhead line that supplies trains with electricity is protected in case of a fault. We work to ensure that you have the best and smoothest possible experience on your train journeys!"
