About Andrea...

Who am I?

"My profile is Communicator, Co-ordinator, TrainerIn my role as Head of People these 'types' match perfectly. I spend a lot of my time communicating with people, supporting their development and co-ordinating events and projects."

What do I do?

"I am Head of People for 3 Biotech Companies. My role is about making sure we recruit and retain the right people and that they are happy at work. I spend a lot of time supporting our teams and ensuring that the company culture ensures that our people are able to thrive. I love helping our team and get a particular buzz seeing our 'graduates' progress in their careers."

How did I get here?

"I actually started life in payroll and them moved across to HR. At the time I had no professional qualifications, however the company I worked for offered me support (financially and time off) to progress and achieve my CIPD qualifications. I have always thought of myself as a people person and believe I am in exactly the right role."

The life I live

"I do Yoga and walking in my spare time. I am currently re-learning French and I love to travel to see different places and meet new people."

My typical day

"My day is spent in lots of meetings - these might be business planning meetings, interviews, training sessions or 121 meetings with team members. My key projects are around development of the team/company, Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) policies and implementation of actions such as carbon reporting and running our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programme, this involves leading a team of internal champions. Of course there is the usual administration such as emails and reports to write."

My qualifications

"I did not go to University as I wanted to start earning money. Instead I did my professional HR qualifications through my Employer. I continue to attend workshops, conferences and events to keep up my continuous professional development."
