About Rebecca...
Who am I?
"I really resonate with the traits in the Coordinator and Influencer roles, as being organised, diplomatic, working well with others, and being willing to help when needed sum up my style of working. I was quite surprised when assigned with the Manager role as this is not something I had considered myself as before, but there are several traits I identify with such as being team oriented, open minded, and being good with money - something to consider for the future! All of these traits really come in useful in the workplace and help me to succeed in my job. The ability to coordinate, influence and manage are crucial to being efficient not only in the workplace, but in day-to-day life as well! "
What do I do?
"As an Efficiency Engineer I work in our Generated Gases business, focusing on our smaller nitrogen and oxygen generators situated on customer sites around Europe. This involves monitoring the general efficiency of the plants, flagging up problems to the relevant teams, and working on tools that can help the teams manage their plants effectively and improve the reliability and efficiency of the fleet. One of my favorite aspects of my role is rolling out new tools to different groups of people within the business. As the tools begin to be used, I work with the end users to obtain feedback, and the developers to work out how is best to implement the feedback. This ensures the new tools can be used reliably by the different teams to help monitor their plants and improve the efficiency of the fleet of generators, and this can have a real impact. As I'm on the Graduate Scheme at Air Products, I will be moving onto a new role in Process Systems Engineering after finishing my first assignment in the Generated Gases team."
How did I get here?
"At school I always enjoyed maths and science subjects, and even remember saying to my mum that I missed solving equations after my year 10 work experience week! Doing a degree in Chemical Engineering felt right for me as it had a mix of all the subjects I enjoyed, as well as a practical element, and there was never really a time i considered doing anything else. After my third year at University in 2018, I took a year away from studying to go and work as an Industrial Placement student at Air Products. Here I worked as a Project Engineer, and loved it! I was offered a job with the company after I had completed my degree, so returned as a full-time employee on the graduate scheme less than a year later. Doing internships and placements is something I would definitely recommend, as it allows you to try new things and get a feel for what you'd like to do (or not to do!) in the future. "
The life I live
"I have a recently-ignited passion of pizza making, which I love to spend my time doing outside of work. Making the dough and trying to find the perfect recipe is fun, but my favourite part is launching them into the pizza oven (and eating them afterwards!)"
My typical day
"Most of my time is spent at my desk, but I try to get out for a visit to site as often as I can! Every month I prepare Efficiency Reports for the fleet of plants I work with, and present these to each relevant group comprising of the site, business and management teams. I act as a central contact between the different groups, and I manage some of the communication and efficiency tools in use. This involves setting up calculations for the fleet of plants, working with the IT teams to improve the tools, and working with the different engineering disciplines to resolve issues. "
My qualifications
"AS Level: Biology (B)A Level: Maths (A), Chemistry (A), Physics (A)Degree: MEng Chemical Engineering with Industrial Placement (1st Class Honors) "
