About Ella...
Who am I?
"I think my personality types of Coach, Coordinator and Influencer closely align with who I am as a person. I believe these fit with my professional role as an Account Manager, as key parts of my job include being a good listener and soundboard to the customer and then working with them whilst bringing the right people together to solve their problems. Finally, another important part of my role is to offer insights the customer may have not thought of and explaining this in a simple way. "
What do I do?
"I work as an Account Manager in the Education team at Amazon Web Services and I am specifically aligned to the Education Technology (EdTech) vertical. As an Account Manager I have a portfolio of accounts (customers) who I meet with weekly/monthly to ensure first and foremost they're having a good customer experience, help them overcome any issues they're having and to ultimately drive growth of their business through using AWS cloud services.I enjoy being able to communicate with different people each day and everyday is different, which means there is a different challenge and learning experience everyday. I think it's important to address that although I work for a technology company I am not a 'techy' person. My role is a sales role and key aspects of my job include talking to people, earning trust and building relationships."
How did I get here?
"After completing my degree in History of Art at Oxford Brookes I completed an Internship for a Council led Gallery, I found then that the progression I was looking for in the art world did not match what I wanted to achieve. I figured I would enjoy sales because of my personality, I wanted to be surrounded by driven people in an environment that no one day was the same so there was always the option to learn and adapt. After realising this I applied for a number of roles (A LOT at that, so don't stress if you don't get the first job you interview for, you learn so much through failing). I landed my first role as a Business Development Manager at Deliveroo, where I dealt with the end to end sales process; cold calling, meeting the customer, pitching and managing their account for the first two months. When Covid hit I was early in my career there and over half of my team got let go including me. Following this I started to apply for roles across the tech industry as I found that's what I wanted to explore more as it's always changing, you need to constantly adapt and keep learning new things. From my time at Deliveroo I found that Account Management was the part of my role that I most enjoyed, so I tried to apply for roles focused on that part of the sales cycle. In September I completed my interview for the Apprentice Account Manager role at Amazon Web Services, was successful and started in January 2021 and honestly it was everything and more that I was expecting!"
The life I live
"I absolutely love eating and cooking food! As I studied History of Art I enjoy going to galleries and attending upcoming exhibitions, as well as this I go swimming once a week and have done this from a young age."
My typical day
"Since I'm still in my first year at AWS I am still very much training, this includes: learning about the sales cycle, how to engage customers, technical training on our services and internal programs. As well as this I help work on my team initiatives which have included our monthly newsletter, hosting and running our Twitch show and finally helping other EdTech related teams drive growth."
