About Anya...

Who am I?

"My personality matches are coordinator, quality controller and trainer - I would totally agree with these! My job requires me to help plan and deliver large scale projects, I also need to be able to communicate and understand what different teams want from the project (coordinator). In my role I have to create a big picture solution to solve a problem, but them I also need to follow with more detail which includes carefully considering the benefits and risks of the new solution we're proposing (quality controller). Sometime I have to 'translate' between teams who don't speak the same 'language' such as the technical developers who use highly technical language and the business teams who need a simpler understanding of the solution. I have to understand what each person wants to know and find the best way to communicate this to them (trainer)."

What do I do?

"I am an automation solution architect, I look at large scale problems within the company and how to improve these using automation (such as robotic automation or workflow automation). I am looking to make some of the processes that happen in the business simpler and more efficient, this hopefully saves the business some money and also frees up staffs time from boring repetitive tasks so they can do more interesting work. A process can be something as small as how you copy information from one system to another to ensure a bill is paid, to as large as hiring someone for a job.I have always seen myself as a very organised and logical person. I like plans, lists, processes and working closely with other people. My job requires quite a methodical approach which suits me, I enjoying communicating my ideas and working closely with lots of different people. I work with some interesting new technologies, such as process mining, and get to help introduce these into new parts of the business. The starting salary for my role as a graduate at Vodafone is £33,000."

How did I get here?

"At school I was consistently torn between choosing STEM subjects and choosing arts subjects (especially dance and art), maths was my favourite subject though so I studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A level with Dance at AS. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do in my career so I chose to study physics at university as I knew this would keep lots of career paths open for me once I'd graduated. As part of my degree I chose to do a year industry placement and I decided I wanted to do something completely non-technical and not related to my degree! I joined PwC in a HR recruitment & outreach role and I loved it, once I graduated I joined back into a very similar role. This job taught me so much about how to communicate to different audiences and how to work in a large organisation. After 2 years however I realised I was missing working in a more technical area and I wanted to develop different skills. I had been involved in trying to improve some of the processes we did and had enjoyed seeing the outcomes in my team. My manager helped give me the confidence to search for new roles are I joined the Automation and Operations scheme at Vodafone. "

The life I live

"I love making things in my free time, I'm a keen baker of anything sweet and currently very into making pies! I also enjoy sewing, make some of my own clothes and have recently started crocheting my first very warm bobble hat. I will also take any opportunity to get outside for a walk or a run, especially on a sunny day!"

My typical day

"My day usually starts by checking my emails, I'll see if anything has come in that needs my actions and I'll try and reply to anything I can at that moment. I check my calendar to see what my day looks like, how many meetings I have an with who. Usually I have about 2-3 hours of meetings each day and I'll check to make sure I have everything I need for them. For the rest of my day I might be creating or adding to solution design documents, or gathering information from other people in the business that we'll need to help us make decisions. As we use automation tools to help solve our problems I might be involved in finding out how we connect these up to different parts of the business or I may assessing if one way of solving the problem has more benefits than another.I catch up with the other graduates a couple of times a week as we're working on a project together that I'm leading. We'll update each other on what we've been doing and set out what we want to achieve for the next time we meet.I'll always go for a walk at lunchtime, it's so important to get away from the computer and especially as I'm working from home.Towards the end of the day I'll start to think about what I need to do for tomorrow, I might message my manger if I have any questions or call one of my team members for a quick 5 min chat just to say hi!"
