About Alice...

Who am I?

"I think that the personality types have me spot on! They match the current work that I so very well, as I have to support and coordinate for a number of people, and I also get involved in project work which requires me to think outside the box.I am definitely a communicator - I love working with people and making sure that everyone is happy.I am very organised and like to make sure that things are done right - which fits with me being a coordinator. And finally I love to analyse and solve problems, especially if it involves numbers, which is in line with being an investigator! "

What do I do?

"I am in a graduate role, which means that I get to experience all area of the business, and I am provided with a variety of training to prepare me for my next role. As well as this, I also support the CEO and the UK executives with day to day organisation, which allows them to be more effective, and also assist in project work where necessary. The graduate salary starts at £26,000, and you also get a company vehicle!"

How did I get here?

"Once I finished my degree in engineering geology I fancied a bit of a change so trained as a bookkeeper. I did this for about a year and then went travelling in America and worked on a summer camp teaching horse riding. I then came back to the UK and worked in a fish and chip shop for a year!I was undecided as to whether to go back to university to do a masters or to do a graduate job so I applied for both, and ultimately decided that I didn't want to do another year at university. I worked for 4 months at Hanson on their generalist graduate scheme before I was offered the opportunity to be the assistant to the CEO.As you can see it took me a while to get to where I am, so don't give up - and always do something because its what you want to do, not because you feel it is something you should do."

The life I live

"I love being outdoors, doing DIY projects and making music! I enjoy cooking (and eating!), and like to spend time socializing with friends. "

My typical day

"My job is very varied which is great! I spend about half my time organising diaries, sorting agendas and creating PowerPoint slides for meetings and presentations. I help to support and coordinate a variety of projects, and I am on the commitee for the Network of Women, which is trying to increase the number of women that work in our company. I work from home, so spend a fair bit of my time in teams meetings, but I also have the opportunity to travel to sites so that I can get experiance and understand all areas of the business. "
