About Kiaya...
Who am I?
"I always find personality quizzes a little weird as they depend heavily on your mood when filling them out! I agree that I enjoy leading and managing groups. I really enjoy listening to other people's opinions and working to create a good compromise between conflicting opinions. Getting to develop solutions to problems is also exciting for me. All of this adds up to me enjoying leading and managing projects, both as part of a team and alone. I definitely don't see myself as an influencer but maybe I haven't discovered that part of myself yet!"
What do I do?
"I manage the daily running of a wind farm construction site. This comprises of an onshore location, offshore installation and commissioning on the turbines themselves. This includes everything from planning processes and layouts, organising tasks and ensuring the technicians have what they need. My degree is useful as there are a lot of complex technical issues that require a solid theoretical understanding. I love working with a wide variety of people both inside the organisation and the customer. It's really cool to see the project devleop from paper plans to a solid solution that we ge to install and see generate first power. We've been asked to give our starting salary, and whilst it's not all about the money, it is important to know. When converted to GBP (£) I earn about £50k which is around average in Denmark (there's a lot of tax!)."
How did I get here?
"Whilst in my last year of enigneering at university, I applied to loads of jobs. I found the application process pretty horrible and got rejections from many. I then applied to work at SGRE which was a slightly different application process that suited me much better. I then spoke with various people in the ogianisation about opportunities on site and eventually was given the opportunity to apply for the role of site manager. I was very lucky to get this job and feel supported by the people I work with. "
The life I live
"When I was offered my job, I moved to Denmark. It was very exciting to move to a new country and working for a large company made it very easy.I have a great work life balance and get to work a 2 week on 2 week off shift! Outside of working hours, I enjoy climbing, playing basketball and sailing (and having Friday drinks!)."
My typical day
"My days vary a lot. As the site manager i take a lot of meetings monday to friday regarding the running of the site, planning, procurement and contractual topics with the customer. On the weekend I get a chance to spend more time outside with the technicians to see how they're working with the aim to make life easier for them. As well as my regular job, I take Danish classes and a working towards chartership with the IMechE."
