About Anya...
Who am I?
"I am a Graduate Software Developer at Arqiva. My personality types are coordinator, manager and quality controller. I resonate with all three of these and can see how they are reflected in my work. As a coordinator and manager I love to be organised and have a clear idea of what needs to be achieved and how I can work with others to get there. In terms of quality controller, I like to understand why people work the way they do and use this to influence my own work and sometimes challenge their practices. All of these qualities are used in software development as it is a collaborative role which requires attention detail and a clear plan of action. "
What do I do?
"As a software developer my days are varied between individual work and working with a team. I love this aspect of my role as I thrive off a combination of these two work styles. My work in simple terms is problem solving using technology. I will be a assigned a task and work to either develop a new part of software or fix some issues with existing software. The part by which I get to work with others is the planning and organising of each project and task. "
How did I get here?
"Throughout school I knew I wanted to go to university and that it would be for something science based. I firstly did A Levels in Chemistry, Maths and Biology which led me to go on to study Mathematics at university. I had always planned to travel at some point in my life and after university I was ready to take the opportunity. I spent half the year working and living at home so I could earn some money and the other half exploring South America. After this year I decided to go back into education and steer my life in a different path by doing a masters in computing. This is where I learned the joy of programming and realised I wanted a career in Software Development. Finally I applied to Arqiva and that's how I ended up here!"
The life I live
"What I most enjoy to do with my spare time is spend it with my friends and organise trips to see those who are spread all across the UK! When I'm at home I enjoy finding new recipes to cook, playing the piano and doing lots of jigsaw puzzles."
My typical day
"I begin each morning by checking what meetings and tasks I have to complete for the day. I spend most of my time researching computing techniques and coding ideas and seeing how I can incorporate these into the project or task I am working on. My meetings involve planning the team's approach to a task or reflecting on previous work and how we can improve. "
