About Sally...

Who am I?

"The personality types I got were Communicator, Coordinator and Trainer. They really suit the work I do!"

What do I do?

"I work with other businesses and customers to understand their business requirements and work to design and implement solutions to help them achieve their goals. I specifically focus on collaboration tools such a calling, meetings and messaging software and consult with partners and customers around these areas to ensure the best solution is found.I really enjoy working with a wide variety of people and meeting new people every day - it's interesting to hear the different points of view and I learn something new from everyone I meet!I have to ensure that I am up to date with the latest technological advancements in collaboration and share this knowledge with others to help them improve their businesses and business practises."

How did I get here?

"I had, sadly, never considered a role in Technology, however I couldn't be happier to be working in this industry now. I studied a variety of subjects at GCSE and A Level and went on to do a BSc degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Loughborough University. When I graduated I still wasn't sure what career path I should choose so spent 9 months working in a call centre in the insurance industry. This was a great stepping stone for me as it helped me to gain confidence in speaking to new people and also gave me great insight into how large organisation operate in the world of work. From there I decided to spend some time travelling and spent 3 years teaching English in South Korea. This was another great learning curve for me as I was travelling alone, learning a new language and adapting to a new culture as well as working full time in a middle school, helping students with their English studies and introducing some British culture to them too.On returning to the UK I was searching for a job which would offer me some more development opportunities and this job cropped up during my search. I joined a company called BroadSoft (who have now been acquired by Cisco). I was hired for this job based on an assessment centre - a day of activities and tasks used to assess your strengths to confirm if you are a good fit for the role. I had no industry knowledge at that point but was hired based on my existing skills built up over my previous jobs and experiences. Since then I have never looked back and continued to progress my career in technology over the last 5 years and have big plans to continue that development into the future!"

The life I live

"I have always loved sports and still really enjoy playing Netball and running. I also have 2 labradors and love taking them out for long walks - although I don't enjoy it when they dive in the muddy puddles!"

My typical day

"I work from home and go out to meetings with partners and customers on a regular basis. Every day is different in this role, but most days I spend time at my desk to make sure I have responded to e mails and that I am up to date with the latest information. The majority of my time is spent in meetings with partners and customers, sharing ideas, providing updates on ongoing projects and keeping everyone up to date. Any bigger projects I am assigned are often focussed around selling new products to other business so they can sell them too. This involves working with large teams of people to pull together all the expertise needed to create an attractive offer to the business. When we are successful with projects I am then responsible for implementing this and working with partners to ensure they are successful in selling our products.I work as part of a team, and as we all work from home we have weekly video calls to catch up and align with our managers on the important things happening. I also have a meeting with my manager every week to check in and share how I am feeling about work and to ask for any help I need. I speak regularly with my team and my manager between these meetings but these are formal times for us to speak."
