About Ranya...
Who am I?
"My name is Ranya, I’m 24 years old, I’m half Romanian, half Syrian and I’m currently a Senior Digital Marketing Associate at LoopUp which is a software company based in London. I think the personality types match perfectly with what I do now.The coordinator personality type fits well with my ability to be part of a wider marketing team and work efficiently at the same time. In my current role, being organised, getting things done on time and budget as well as working well with others are a must. The manager personality type influences the type of career that I want to have and my desire to inspire people to achieve their full potential. I do believe that in order to succeed in the corporate world you need to be motivated, adaptable, open minded and compassionate. The trainer personality type influences my ability to give back and be able to help inspire other people (e.g. my team members, friends, etc.) to thrive in their professional careers. Skills such as being understanding and helpful, good listener and being passionate about sharing knowledge are an asset for you and every company you are going to work for."
What do I do?
"My main responsibilities are:* Managing digital marketing activities across UK, US, Australia, Germany, France and Spain* Customer acquisition through Search Engine Marketing, Display, Contextual Marketing, Remarketing, Content Marketing* Developing end-to-end online programs. This includes all aspects of campaign management: brainstorming, setup, optimisation (placement, creative, spend, landing pages), and analytics* Optimisation: Web, Creative, Content, Search Engine Marketing, Paid Display, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)I’m really happy that the outcomes of my work influence the overall company growth. By doing all the mentioned activities I’m bringing new customers to the business and raising brand awareness. Overall, the digital marketing team is partly responsible for revenue generation.I really enjoy the variety of my job from having different projects to collaborating with different team members and different departments. I also really like that I can clearly see the influence of my work through the customers we bring in. Lastly, it’s really fun to work in digital because things are always changing, new stuff are being launched and you just have to keep learning as you go along - it’ll never get boring!"
How did I get here?
"I have graduated with a First Class BBA Hons in Business Administration & Marketing with a Year in Industry and my first real job was my placement year. I was an Account Management Assistant for a software company. I really enjoyed this role because I was starting to understand how corporate life works before graduating university which gave a tremendous advantage both in my final year education and job prospects. After graduating, I joined Kantar (market research company) in their global FCMG (products you find in supermarkets) division working as an International Client Service Graduate. I worked exclusively with Unilever and their Foods & Refreshments (Ben & Jerry’s, Magnum, Lipton and Knorr) brands and Beauty & Personal Care (Dove, Tresemme and Sunsilk). My main responsibilities were:* Providing multi-market reports using consumer purchase, retail and brand equity data* Providing actionable insights and recommendations to their Product, Brand and Research and Development teamsThis role developed my analytical, presentation and public speaking skills together with my ability to establish strong relationships with senior management within Unilever. However, after 1 year I have realised that my passion lies in digital and technology, thus, I started applying for digital marketing roles in tech companies.Overall, nobody really inspired me (unfortunately). To be completely honest, it was quite hard to decide what I wanted to do after university but I have applied to different roles which I thought would suit my personality and skills, however, afterwards I realised what I really wanted to do and I just went for it. I’m really happy right now and I think that was the best decision I made."
The life I live
"I like being a STEM ambassador and volunteering for projects like this! It gives me the ability to give back by influencing girls to follow their career aspirations and goals.I also like reading books, gardening and cooking traditional Middle Eastern dishes."
My typical day
"I’m currently working on a product launch and I’m responsible for brainstorming, planning, setup, optimisation, tracking and reporting of all the digital activities for it - Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and Display. This project is really important because we are launching in a new industry, therefore, it is a huge opportunity for the company to progress and increase its footprint."
