About Lauren...
Who am I?
"I am definitely a leader as well as a team player, I like to be organised and I am very motivated to do well. One of my personality types is 'coordinator', I am willing to help out, organised and get things done on time. These qualities are hugely important in my role (as well as many more), often I am given tasks with tight timescales and it is vital that these are done within this time. In my role, it is vital that I am willing to help out as often the work I do and the data I hold will help others with their projects and help get it done within a timely manner. Another type is 'influencer', diplomatic, good with detail and explanations and works well alone and with others. It is important to be able to work not only good within a team but independently as well, in my role we have to create and deliver presentations, we all have our individual areas to complete but we must work together to ensure all the work is complete and consistent. Finally, 'manager', motivated, team orientated, adaptable. Within this role you have to be flexible and adaptable as the work and priorities can change very quickly. "
What do I do?
"I am on a graduate development programme and this means that my role can change which allows me to develop as I join the working world. My current role of Incident Governance Leads puts me in charge of reporting on the current situation of our accounts. The company is an IT services company and we get 'incidents' from users, this can be anything from a password reset to a whole server going down. My job is to report on the volumes of incidents and work with teams to help drive improvement. I also have to report monthly to business leaders and create visuals on the progress of each account. There is also a lot of ad hoc work where people within the business will ask for reports completed on various things to help improve the business. Mainly, I use Power BI and Excel in my work and the starting salary as a graduate would be £21,000 or more and this will increase as you gain more experience."
How did I get here?
"I managed to start this role 2 months after graduating from University with a Mathematics degree - I was very lucky! During uni I completed a placement year in Finance which gave me experience and an idea on the type of work I enjoyed. I also had a part time job in a restaurant as I studied and this gave me confidence and all of the 'soft' skills (communication, team work, etc.) that are vital in all lines of work. "
The life I live
"In my spare time I love spending time with my friends, taking long walks on the coast or simply staying home and binge watching Netflix! I also enjoy the theatre (fun fact: when deciding on University, I didn't know whether to apply for Drama/Theatre Studies or Maths!!) and hope to get back into performing one day."
My typical day
"A typical day at work would be spending time on my laptop (this is where all my work is done!), I would firstly check any emails and create a to-do list to guide me through what needs doing today and the priority. I would then send out my morning reports and begin going through my to-do list. There will always be things that come up throughout the day and I will also spend time working through things with my colleagues. "
My qualifications
"After GCSE, I went and did A level Maths, Drama and Psychology before going to Northumbria University to study Mathematics and I graduated in 2019 with a first-class Bachelors Degree."
