About Chezanne...

Who am I?

"The personality types matched fits very well with what I do as I have to communicate and explain technical information with other people and the customer. Also, I have to coordinate activities in my project whilst making sure I fully understand the complex tasks. I have to remain calm yet think through any potential ideas on how to solve issues."

What do I do?

"As a Systems Engineer my work can be very varied ranging from working in design, test or installation areas. I have done some work within the design and installation but I have worked mostly in a testing area for the transportation sector. My main projects have been working on trams and railway projects. My main tasks have been to test parts of the system making sure it will work when finished. I have to document the testing I am to carry out and the results of these tests too; where some of this is also witnessed by the customer. The most enjoyable part of my job is fixing issues and seeing my projects working correctly on site, where everyday people use them daily. The starting wage as a graduate is from around £27,000 per year and £30,000 from a main role."

How did I get here?

"I started by finding out I liked electronics in high school. After leaving school I went to college doing a BTEC National in Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering. During my first year at college I found a full time job working in a hospital as an Electrical Maintenance Assistant. I carried on at college for a second year but had to go part time therefore I switched to an Ordinary National Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering. On completing my college course, I went to Sheffield Hallam University, part time over 5 years, studying a Bachelors in Electronic Engineering. After completing my degree I changed job direction and got a place as a Graduate Systems Engineer. Finally 2 years after completing my graduate assessments, I became a fully qualified Systems Engineer."

The life I live

"I am currently a new mum to a little baby girl, so I am focusing on playing and watching my little girl grow up. My other hobbies are learning British Sign Language and painting my nails with funky gel colours."

My typical day

"A typical day at work includes reading and writing test documents on my laptop, making sure I understand what I am to test and why. Testing on other computers and writing down my results as proof that it has passed. If any of the testing failed, then I have to try to understand why and how to fix it, and document that in the results too. I also check, read and write emails to my other team members and sometimes customers, telling them what I have tested and what the results are."

My qualifications

"After leaving school I went to college doing BTEC National in Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering. During my first year at college I found a full time job, therefore I switched to an Ordinary National Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical and Electronic Engineering in my 2nd year. On completing my college course, I went to Sheffield Hallam University, part time over 5 years, studying a Bachelor degree in Electronic Engineering.
