About Sara...

Who am I?

"The 'coordinator' type I think matches my personality as I am quiet organised and plan out my time to ensure I can get all my work done on time and to a high quality. I also have to be able to understand a customers needs and be able to explaining it to others as well as showing it in a technical manner. I also get on well with others and find it easy to be able work in teams with different people from different business areas. I am a good listener and able to pick up key pieces of information that allow me to give good feedback and suggestions of how to solve problems to users. In saying this I am always open to change and will always look for the best way to complete a project and make the user/customer happy at the same time. "

What do I do?

"I am a Digital Graduate within the Digital Innovation team of Scottish Water. My job is to help other areas of the business find ways to use different digital solutions to improve the way that they work and make it more efficient. This involves working closely with other business areas to understand their needs. We are a small team of 7 people. The solutions that I make are built within the Microsoft Technology Suite using Power Apps, Microsoft SharePoint and Power BI to make simple apps and data visuals to aid in users to make informed decisions and have technology to help everyone to their job more efficiently. The part of my job that I enjoy most is the fact that every day is different and I am always learning and improving my skills as well as learning better and more efficient ways to do things. The typical starting salary for Web Developers is around £23,000."

How did I get here?

"I did a BSc(Honours) Computing degree and went on to do another graduate position at a different company. After realising the position wasn't what I had hoped I left and began looking for other jobs. After a couple of months I was interviewed for Scottish Water and the rest is history. "

The life I live

"When I am not working I enjoy spending time with friends, reading, watching tv and baking/cooking. "

My typical day

"My work week is Monday - Friday and my usual working hours are 8-4:30. I will usually start my day by checking my emails and planning out what work is priority for the day. As a team we all tend to take the lead on our own projects but we all have different knowledge bases and are able to help one another when we need it. Work days vary to being in multiple project calls during the course of the day and planning work around those, or to being able to work primarily on creating/working on different solutions to help the users. The majority of time I will be working on creating apps but I have to show the users on a weekly/fortnightly basis the updates that have been made to the solutions and allow user testing to be done to allow bug fixes to be made. I also have to keep on top of the different pieces of documentation that must be done to go alongside each of the projects. "

My qualifications

"2:1 BSc(Honours) Computing Degree from Glasgow Caledonian University."
