About Christina...

Who am I?

"As an Engineering Intern, i am an Influencer. I have worked on a few projects at my college, and I have also attended key events like WomEng Fellowship. As a Coach and Trainer, i like working with kids, during my vacations I teach at Royal Kidz Academy."

What do I do?

"As an Engineering Intern, I do more of maintenance. In short maintenance is about, ensuring that machines are good conditions, and if they are not it is my responsibility to fix the problem. As a STEM Teacher, I help children understand science and build their interest. I like problem solving and coming up with new ideas as engineers we solve problem. I love tutoring others about STEM. "

How did I get here?

"The first step is to get done with high school by completing IGCSE/GCSE (in my countrt Malawi, we have MSCE, an equivalent of IGCSE). That will help you enrol into any Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics programme. In other countries a bachelor's degree takes 3 years, but in Malawi it takes 5 years (for engineering) but it is worth it. So far I have had the previlage of working as an Intern with ESCOM (they supply electricity throught Malawi) and i have recently finished my industrial attachment with Maldeco Fisheries (a fish company). I have also worked with ESCOM (second stint) and I was recently working with EGPAF (Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation) where I installed and maintained renewable energy back-up systems in hospitals and clinics. "

The life I live

"I live a quite interesting life, bearing in mind there are actually very few female engineers in Malawi. It is a male dominated field, but i am always encouraged that i can do something worth admiring. I can also contribute something. And that fires me up to keep going. "

My typical day

"I wake up around 5:00am, take a bath and have breakfast.By 7:00am i make sure i am at work. Then i deal with whatever issue arises that requires my attention.12:00pm is lunch time.1:30pm, I am back at it, working. Fixing things and the like, up to 5:00pm.I get home around 5:45pm, have some rest then cook.I have supper around 8:00pm, m10:00pm, lights off, then comes the next day. "

My qualifications

"I hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Hons) from the University of Malawi, the Polytechnic (MUBAS).I am a registered graduate engineer with the Malawi Engineering Institution (MEI)I am a member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) "
