About Hannah...

Who am I?

"The main personality types I got were 'communicator', 'coordinator' and 'manager'. During my various rotations in my graduate scheme I've had to communicate with various teams in the UK and abroad. I regularly have to coordinate and manage my own time to ensure that I will deliver my projects on time - something that's very important! Also through my volunteering roles, I do a lot of leadership where I use those three skills a lot to lead a large team to plan and organize events. I am now a Cyber Investigator, working in the Cyber Security team - I use my skills as a communicator to talk to the rest of my team, and my skills as a coordinator to prioritize my work."

What do I do?

"I work as a cyber security analyst / cyber investigator for the cyber security team. The role of our team is to ensure that the companies Intellectual Property doesn't get stolen, and that there isn't a cyber attack on the company. Though I did a degree in Electronic Engineering, I found that I really loved the software side over then hardware side of engineering. Teamwork is also very important in engineering, and I spend a lot of time working in my various teams - something that I really love."

How did I get here?

"I've always had a passion for Maths and Physics, but really loved the practical work. Due to this, I did A Levels in Chemistry, Maths and Physics and tried to figure out how to combine these to make something practical, which is how I got to engineering so I studied for a degree in Electronic Engineering. To try and figure out if this was for me, I did a placement year at GE Oil and Gas. I loved the people at GE and this was where I found out about the grad scheme. I was then able to apply for the graduate scheme before I started my final year at university. I'm really keen on representation and having a voice, so I won an election in my final year to become the representative for my faculty (over 6,000 students) which really gave me a lot of confidence! "

The life I live

"I love baking, cooking, reading, music and watching films! Ooh and I love rollercoasters! I'm not very sporty but I am getting into running, which is a good pastime when it's nice weather out! "

My typical day

"So far it’s been a mixture of being in labs, talking to a LOT of people, making data look interesting in Excel spreadsheets, volunteering to help run the schemes that we have on site to promote engineering to kids, a huge variety!"
