About Laura...
Who am I?
"I feel the personality types match me quite accurately. Co-ordinator - I enjoy co-ordinating tasks, for example I instruct contractors to attend to fix maintenance issues which tenants have reported. Influencer - I influence the younger members of the team by showing professionalism and getting results.Trainer - I am a mentor to a new member of staff and I am heavily involved in her training."
What do I do?
"My main duties are: Reacting to required maintenance and instructing contractors, providing good communication and a good service to our landlords and tenants, overseeing refurbishments such as new kitchens and bathrooms, visiting properties for regular inspections, meeting tenants for check-ins and check-outs, instructing annual safety appliance certificates. "
How did I get here?
"How did I get here? \tI completed four years at Northumbria University studying Estate Management Bsc Hons and came out with a First Class Honours degree. The third year was a placement year where I was able to gain experience in the property sector. I carried out my placement at a residential block management company which set me up with knowledge for my lettings management role after university at Pat Robson & Co.Choosing to study a degree in property was a last minute decision for me whilst at high school. I did not have any family in the sector, and little knowledge. However, I really liked the concept of how property applies both practice and theory, and you are able to visit a range of properties and not be restricted to the same location each day. I am very pleased that I chose to go into this sector. I have colleagues who have entered the property sector in various ways, from Apprenticeships to no experience at all. There are lots of different opportunities. "
The life I live
"In my spare time I enjoy spending time with friends and family, and my dog! I also enjoy partaking in sports and I play for my netball team each week.In October 2019, I was a finalist at the Propertymark Qualifications awards which was held at the House of Lords. I won the ‘Rising Star’ award 2019. This is one of my greatest achievements, and it means a lot to me that my employer nominated me and put me forward for this national award."
My typical day
"I spend a lot of time on my computer on our property systems and also responding directly to e-mails. My role is heavily problem solving focused. Tenants come to me when they have issues in their properties and it is my responsibility to solve these problems for them. Two of the key reasons why I enjoy working in property are that no day is the same, and that I am not restricted to a desk all day and I have the opportunity to travel to various properties. Some days I may visit six properties a day on inspections ensuring that the tenants are happy and that everything is in order maintenance and safety wise."
My qualifications
"AS Levels, A Levels, Estate Management BSc Hons"
