About Lucy...

Who am I?

"Coach – I agree that I’m compassionate and honest which I think are important in my role because I am dealing with tenants of pubs which have their whole livelihood (job and house) at the mercy of a landlord (which I represent). It is vital that I am empathetic towards them and it helps me do well in my role.Co-ordinator – I don’t agree with organised necessarily; I have the best intentions to be organised but it often doesn’t pay off and my time keeping certainly has room for improvement. Nonetheless my role does require being able to deliver a good service and give my stakeholders what they need which I do my best to deliver. Trainer - I think this fits my personality because I would much rather help someone to understand how to do something, rather than just do it (teach a man to fish etc…). This fits my role well because there is so much information and stuff to understand that it is great to be able to show others how to do something for themselves in the future."

What do I do?

"My main role is to implement and complete rent reviews and lease renewals of pubs, let pubs, sell pubs, and manage the day to day lease related issues that may crop up with pubs. I love my job because of the varied pub types that I encounter and how each lessee is very different. "

How did I get here?

"I started working at 14 y/o in my family’s B&B/Guest House. I also worked in pubs alongside this. When I got to university I got a job in second year at a local letting agents, two days a week. I then spent a full year there for my sandwich year of university, working full time. I also carried out work experience with some local surveying firms alongside this. I then applied for about 15-20 graduate positions, as the approach we had been advised to take was ‘apply for everything’. I got to final stages of a couple of recruitment processes but was rejected a lot along the way. I was offered a job in a small commercial surveying firm in Hartlepool – which I didn’t really want at all! I then found out that I’d made it through to the Heineken interview final round. I attended and was delighted to hear that I had got the job."

The life I live

"I go to the gym and love spending time with my friends, family & boyfriend.I recently begun rock climbing which is great fun, both indoors and outdoors! I also play tennis and try and go skiing as much as possible!"

My typical day

"My day varies a lot! It is not the same every day, but usually it will consist of battling email traffic and chasing solicitors. Then, I may go and inspect a pub or join my colleague for a meeting at a pub, speaking with various colleagues over the phone on the way. I will do my best to get a good outcome from my meeting and then review the pubs in the local area. Once I’ve done that, I’ll drive home, again catching up with colleagues most of the way. I’ll then get back and action whatever was required from the meeting and respond to a few more emails."

My qualifications

"3 A levels – Business studies – A, English literature – A, Philosophy & Ethics – BThen, went to Northumbria University and attended the Real Estate BSc Hons Undergraduate course."
