About Fena...
Who am I?
"I think the personality types suit my character as I like to have a plan and help individuals or the team achieve their goal. This fits with the job I do as there are so many different things happening that you have to be organised and you need to be able to manage your time to adapt to different situations and changing workloads."
What do I do?
"I enjoy the variety that comes with my job and being involved in an industry that is always evolving and full of friendly and knowledgeable people. "
How did I get here?
"My brother inspired me to go to sea and people that achieve a lot within our industry are those who continue to inspire me now. "
The life I live
"I have recently started learning to sew and make my own clothes so I spend time doing that and walking my dog."
My typical day
"As I work for a membership organisation I am always at the end of an email to help people with any safety related queries. We seek information from our members on the policies they would like to see be created and implemented to ensure ships are safe. I also get to do a lot of different projects that focus on specialised on certain topics and even get to be creative with designing promotional materials, creating industry videos and putting on events."
My qualifications
"10 GCSEs including Maths and Double Science. Attended a Nautical College and studied to achieve a HND in Nautical Science. As part of my career in the Merchant Navy we had to complete a cadetship allowing me to gain the HND, but also an unlimited ‘Certificate of Competency’ allowing me to navigate any ship of any size as a third or second officer. After working at sea for 8 and a half years, 5 as an Officer of the Watch I moved ashore and have been moving up internally ever since."
