About Emma...

Who am I?

"The personality types I've been matched with are a Coordinator, Influencer, Quality Controller. These traits tie in nicely with my role of setting up processes in a scaling business, being part of a growing successful team while keeping a keen eye on quality and adapting to change. "

What do I do?

"The main thing I enjoy about my role is the diverse nature of a fast-growing company and the challenges this brings from a finance perspective. Having an understanding of Finance can open you up to a range of different roles and gives you a good basis of understanding businesses and how they operate as a whole. "

How did I get here?

"After GCSEs I studied Maths, Chemistry and Economics as A-levels. I decided I wanted to do a more generalist degree to provide me with a broader set of skills so went on to study Management at the University of Leeds. I did a few accounting modules at Leeds which lead me to apply for a graduate contract post Uni to do the ACA training and exams. During the training programme my employer paid for all of the exams and training required to do the qualification which took 3 years and is a combination of hours worked and exams. I joined Tessian, the world's first Human Layer Security platform, in March as Head of Finance. Prior to that I was Finance Director at Boomf an e-commerce gifting startup who sell pictures printed on marshmallows! I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2015 having done a three year training programme in Audit at Mazars."

The life I live

"I enjoy travelling, I took 6 months off last year between jobs to travel some of South America, Central America, South Korea and China."

My typical day

"Working in a financial role there are jobs that have to be done on a frequent basis - processing weekly payments, preparing monthly reports, payroll, etc. Alongside this I work on different projects depending on the plans of the company and how this effects finance, for example looking in the financial/tax implications of expanding in the US. "

My qualifications

"GCSEs: all A's & A* in History AS Level: Spanish D (languages are not my strong point!)A Levels: Maths A, Economics A, Chemistry BDegree: BA Management (International) at University of Leeds: First class honoursFurther qualification: ACA Chartered Accountant (qualified August 2015)"
