Don’t think gender is a barrier to development / progression. Engineering may have been traditionally male dominated, however the majority of the tasks do not require gender specific roles.

About Nia...

Who am I?

"Investigator - I do a lot of investigative work on broken equipment and root cause analysis on failures. Influencer – a large part of what my role is influencing. I also use Developer / Campaigner - there is a large part of people engagement and developing new methodologies."

What do I do?

"I establish company policy for maintaining and operating switchgear (which are used to control and protect electrical equipment), root cause analysis of failed switchgear, design and installation of new equipment, managing contracts and budgets and incident reviews and analysis. There are opportunities to work at various locations / power stations and there is a good salary and benefits."

How did I get here?

"I was encouraged by my parents to pursue a career in the STEM field. I was the first female to be recruited as an apprentice at a coal power station."

The life I live

"I enjoy walking / exploring, travelling, swimming and yoga. I also enjoy crafts such as cross stitching, scrapbooking, sewing and socialising."
