About Su...
Who am I?
"It is important that I am organised and have good attention to detail, so my Coordinator trait is well suited to this job. I need to be delivery focused and good at communicating and understanding the customer’s needs. I think my Influencer trait comes in well with that part of the job. "
What do I do?
"I manage a team of Software Developers and Testers. The team is responsible for the creation of applications and IT solutions and ensuring they have been built to solve the client’s requirements and have been tested before being delivered. I enjoy having the opportunity to move outside of my comfort zone and manage a team of Developers, who are quite different to manage compared to Testers. It has been very exciting and challenging. There are opportunities to progress, but self-management when it comes to career progression is vital. Currently, the organisation is a global firm so there are some opportunities to travel. "
How did I get here?
"I was offered employment whilst studying for my A Levels. At the time it was normal for people to not attend university and the job market was not very good. My main motivation was to get a role in one of the large Professional Services firms as I felt it would offer me the most opportunity. I had a few minor roles before taking a Helpdesk position at a big company. From here I worked my way up into the Helpdesk Manager position and then moved laterally to try out many different IT Service departments within the same organisation. I moved after 21 years in the same firm for a work/life balance reason. The new organisation offered me an opportunity to manage a Development function, which was a new area for me. I was inspired by the CIO at the Professional Services firm whom I worked with for several years. "
The life I live
"I spend time reading, relaxing and looking after our pet chickens. Personal time is very important to me. I've recently taken on a self-build project so spend a lot of my spare time on that. "
My typical day
"It is busy - I hate being bored. My job is varied which makes it interesting. I attend lots of meetings to discuss Project Delivery and to look at our processes and how we work to understand how it can be improved. "
My qualifications
"Following my GCSE/O-Levels, I studied Languages for A-Levels at my local 6th form College. I didn’t go to university and I started work after straight after my A Levels."
