Aaminah Nisa

Chemical Engineering (MEng) Student at

I would say that chemistry and maths are key subjects. Being able to communicate well in writing and orally is very important. English language could be an option. Chemical engineering also looks at the economics of a process. Business studies could be very useful.

Compared to the other engineering disciplines, chemical engineering has a more even split of male/female students. It still skewed male. Do not be intimidated by that. Gender does not dictate your ability to be successful as a chemical engineer. It is the approach to your work and the people around you that matters.

About Aaminah...

Who am I?

"I have to work well in multi-disciplinary teams. Communication is key because I need to be able to relay information in a practical and easy to understand manner, which uses my Coordinator personality. Logical thinking is very important and very much my Investigator personality trait. Sometimes, it is the obvious answer that works and other times you need to think outside of the box."

What do I do?

"As a chemical engineer, I take principles from chemistry, maths and economics to design and operate industrial plants."

How did I get here?

"I want to help create something and have it be used in industry. Designing something from the start is very exciting. Although it is very cliché, I would say my mum inspired me. She raised four girls by herself and sacrificed so much so that we could be successful in our own chosen career paths."

The life I live

"I am an avid reader. I love fantasy, high fantasy and contemporary novels. I often get advance reading copies of books from publishers and authors, so I get to read them first."
