About Beverley...
Who am I?
"The personality types matched me perfectly. While I can adapt easily into different roles, I am passionate about coaching, training and leading learning experiences. I love being able to challenge those I come into contact with to be better versions of themselves. Being able to apply this learning in a way that supports others to achieve their potential is important for me. I enjoy working with others and developing new materials for the topics that I teach. I have recently moved out of the classroom and into the EdTech sector working for a gaming company. It's a brilliant new challenge for me and I love knowing that what I do helps teachers to teach and improves the educational outcomes of students around the world. "
What do I do?
"I was a primary school teacher for16 years, a STEM leader, Literacy coordinator and Code Club leader. Recently I have moved out of the classroom and now work for a global edtech company that develops an online maths game for students. I am their Regional Mathematics Educator for EMEA. It's an exciting role and one which lets me get involved in product development and processes, input educational understanding and the voice of the teacher into the product, and learn about education around the world. I also get to play the game which is really fun! It's amazing when you see that something you have helped to create is used and loved by students and teachers around the world. That's impact!"
How did I get here?
"After completing my A Levels, I went straight to University to do a degree in Primary Education/Geography. After that I started working in a primary school as a teacher. I worked my way up through, attending training and offering opportunities for students to be involved in coding, using robotics and learning through STEM subjects. For me, real-life application of learning was important. I did some training with the Rasberry Pi Foundation and began to take an afterschool Code Club. My interest in computing in education gave me opportunities to work with people in industries and to speak at local universities about the importance of providing students with experience in STEM. When the opportunity arose to work with 3P Learning, I jumped at it. That job was for me and I was going to do what it took to get it. The rest, as they say, is history. "
The life I live
"I enjoy travelling with my family and experiencing other cultures, food included! As a mum of two, I also enjoy spending time with my children; usually reading with them, exploring our garden and local country park."
My typical day
"Most mornings, I get up just before 7am. I have two children, so I spend some time getting them organised for the day and dropped off to school. Depending on my schedule, I will either find a cafe to work from or travel back home and grab my first coffee. I then log onto my computer and check my emails to catch up on what has been happening in the various regions.Working from home means that I have an amazing work-life balance and each day is a little different, which helps with the early morning and late evening calls that are part of working with a global company. Much of my time is spent becoming familiar with global curricula, researching effective learning practices and creating content for the product. The flexibility of my job means that I get to collect my kids from school, help them with homework and prepare dinner for my family. In the evening, once the kids are away to bed, I usually set aside some time to check in on any work outstanding from earlier in the day and also to prepare for any evening calls that I have scheduled on that day. As I’m working on a Masters, I usually have some webinars, readings or assignments to keep on top of later in the evening!"
