Cyber Security Graduate at Energus - Office for Nuclear Regulation

My job role is very unique from the title, especially being on the flexible graduate scheme. I would recommend subjects that you enjoy but also challenge you and work with others as this is often the best way to learn.

About Kirstin...

Who am I?

"My personality fits perfectly with my job. The Quality Controller aspect helps with fairly researching and ensuring that the companies that we regulate are treated fairly, honestly and safely. I deal with lots of different people, so my Communicator is very useful. Influencer fits with the reviewing information aspect of my work. "

What do I do?

"I work in the Security Division for the regulator of the nuclear industry, specifically Cyber Security. As I am only at graduate level my work currently consists of understanding rules. I write reports on security within the industry and shadow superiors, learning about their roles and how these meet the aims of the organisation. The work I do is very interesting and allows me to get out of the office and travel across the UK. I work independently and as part of team, depending on the work being carried out that day. There are great future opportunities for progression and the organisation is committed to training me to a fantastic standard across a wide range of disciplines. I am on a graduate scheme called Nuclear Graduates, which involves all varieties of engineers, environmental scientists, physicists, chemists and security professionals. The scheme gives me the opportunity to work for many companies throughout the UK and if I am lucky enough, even abroad! On completion of my 2-year graduate scheme the progression is marked out very clearly and is a great opportunity."

How did I get here?

"I inspired myself mostly, I worked hard to get my qualifications because I enjoyed them and that led me into a fulfilling job."

The life I live

"I am not from Liverpool, so moving here has been an experience. In my spare time I like to travel to visit friends in other cities (or have them visit me). I also like to go to the gym and I am a keen hockey player."

My typical day

"A typical work day involves liaising with team members, occasionally going on site visits and researching the companies we regulate."
