About Nana...

Who am I?

"Nana is a ‘Service provider’ type, and she certainly provides a service for both the patients and the healthcare teams with her advice and expertise. She is reliable and self-motivated which are important skills as a ‘Quality Controller’ type responsible for maintaining equipment and ensuring safety standards are met. She is a friendly person, and the ‘Coach’ type of her personality is evident in her desire to provide a service that benefits the whole healthcare community."

What do I do?

"Nana may also be involved with innovative projects which go beyond her every day job. Routinely, Nana mixes business and engineering skills. She can be investigating the latest technologies, improving existing equipment and practices, training clinical staff, very importantly; making sure all the equipment is safe whilst also taking account of costs. She needs to understand safety and maintenance requirements to be able to respond quickly if equipment fails. Nana needs to understand individual and population healthcare needs. There is a lot of responsibility with this role.Clinical Engineers in early careers earn from £22,000 to £41,000 per year. "

How did I get here?

"She was inspired by her mum to pursue science or engineering. After completing her SSSCE (A-Level equivalent), she went on to study physics degree. She was inspired to use physics to make a difference in people’s lives so pursued self-funded masters in Biomedical engineering. Her dissertation was within a hospital and applied for her first job in a hospital’s medical equipment library.Nana enjoys her role, knowing that it benefits so many people. Nana is looking to progress in this role and she has been offered a place to study for her Doctorate in Clinical Science, sponsored by her employer. "

The life I live

"Nana enjoys playing word games and sing along with her 3 children. She also enjoys singing in the hospital choir which sings at charity events, concerts and for the patients at Christmas.Nana is a very sociable person, she likes to meet up with people and host them in her spare time. She also enjoys learning and likes to watch videos of healthcare technology. She realises how technological advances are at the heart of making people’s health and lives better. She is looking forward to learning even more during her doctorate and becoming an expert in this field. "
