About Bamidele...

Who am I?

"Bamidele is an empathetic and friendly person who works to find out what infections are making children ill. She really is the ‘Coach’ type and a good ‘Communicator’, helping her team and other medical teams and their patients to share ideas and get quick results. Part of her role is to train team members to carry out their role so the ‘Trainer’ type is a perfect fit.Bamidele loves her work and the fact that her work is contributing to the health and well-being of not just the patients but also the nation, is very rewarding. "

What do I do?

"Bamidele is a medical scientist, diagnosing illnesses at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her job varies daily but her main role is to test samples from patients who are admitted to hospital, for example blood. She uses specialised machinery to carry out tests to find out what is making a patient ill and help doctors decide on the correct treatment to make a child better. Making a quick diagnosis may even save a child’s life!Bamidele works in a laboratory environment with a friendly team. She has the responsibility of educating and training the junior members of the team as well as ensuring that audits and checks are carried out to constantly improve the service so that quick and accurate diagnoses are provided."

How did I get here?

"Bamidele studied Chemistry, Biology and Physics at college and took a GNVQ in Health and Social Care. She wanted to study Pharmacy at University but did not get the grades. She did a Higher National Diploma in Applied Biology as an access course and then a degree in Biomedical Science. This led her to a career which she really enjoys but had not thought about before.Bamidele first worked as a laboratory technician and then took a post as a trainee Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology and Virology at Great Ormond Street Hospital to practice as a registered Biomedical Scientist. She has continued studying whilst working and has added to her qualifications by completing an MSc in Clinical Microbiology and a Specialist Diploma, which her employer has supported her with. "

The life I live

"In her spare time, Bamidele makes sure she has a healthy work-life balance. She really enjoys spending time with her friends and family, and she loves singing. Bamidele has a very positive outlook on life. She believes that every experience, positive or negative, is a learning curve, and nothing is ever a waste. In the future, Bamidele sees herself in a more senior position, offering the highest standards of care and coaching other employees and managers."
