It does not matter how good your product or business is if nobody has heard of you then you are not likely to be successful. Names like Dyson, Apple, Nike are known world wide as the result of good media campaigns. Public relations and communications directors make sure that the people who need to know about a company or product do so. They may design a marketing campaign using online methods such as Facebook, or web search tools; could be preparing magazine and newspaper articles; or designing a TV campaign. They will need to communicate the right messages to the right people. They may attend conferences and events - and they will have a budget for this. Public relations directors may need to respond to negative media stories or trends - for example, Facebook are running a media campaign to restore customer confidence after data leaks. Public relations, communications directors need excellent communications and digital skills. They may have a degree and experience in public relations (PR). English and IT qualifications are useful for this role. Public relations, communications directors can earn between £40,000 to £80,000 per year.
