Health and Safety Advisor
All workplaces can be dangerous places if care is not taken to make them safe. There may be a risk of fire, or falling. People could be operating dangerous machinery or working with poisonous chemicals. Using computers can pose a risk to your eyesight and could even harm your back if you are not sitting correctly. Health and safety advisors work to reduce accidents, injury and health problems in the workplace. They will make regular inspections, develop policies and guidelines, and communicate with people to ensure everyone keeps safe. They may investigate accidents, and work with trade unions. They work in all sorts of industries (manufacturing, mining, engineering) as well as in public services such as hospitals, education and local government. A good degree is needed for this role, and you will need good communications skills so English qualifications are important. Health and safety advisers earn between £22,000 to £70,000 per year.
