Energy engineer
Energy engineers research, design and build power generation plants, or work in the oil and gas industry. To become an energy engineer, you can do a degree in an engineering or a scientific subject such as energy engineering or environmental engineering. To get on to this courses, you usually need 3 A levels including maths and either biology, physics or chemistry. You may also be able to find a degree apprenticeship in power or nuclear engineering. Energy engineers may be researching and designing new energy generating sites, designing and selecting equipment or finding the most cost efficient and productive processes. They need to be able to use their initiative, and have good thinking skills to work out the optimum way of doing things.They can earn between £20,000 and £80,000.
