Construction manager

Construction sites can be incredibly busy places so there needs to be a construction manager to organise the work, ensuring it's completed safely, within budget and on time. Day-to-day, they may be checking plans with architects, surveyors and engineers, hiring staff and buying materials, checking quality or reporting to clients. They need to be very organised and able to manage their workload, as well as using their initiative! To become a construction manager, you could complete a foundation degree, higher national diploma (HND) or degree accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building - usually in a subject such as building studies, civil engineering or construction site management. To get on these courses, you will need 1 or 2 A levels for a foundation course or HND, or 2 to 3 A levels for a degree. Alternatively, you may be able to complete a higher or degree apprenticehip in construction management, or move into the role after several years' experience in the building industry. Construction managers can earn between £27,000 and £70,000.
