About Lily...
Who am I?
"A few years ago I would've been surprised to see the personality types I was matched with, but now I have grown and learnt more about myself I have realised I am a good leader and I enjoy managing projects and tasks. I love working as part of a team and will always take time to explain things to someone if they don't understand and ensure that everyone's opinion is heard. I never thought of myself as a manager, but now I see I have the traits needed. I am open-minded and adaptable, I love to be organised and I enjoy bringing people together for problem-solving discussions. "
What do I do?
"I am a Reliability Engineer which means I work to make sure systems and vessels are as reliable as possible. I try to predict when things are going to break, and put things in place to help stop it. I look at how equipment is maintained and looked after and come up with ways to improve this. My main goal is to have all systems and equipment available to use as much as possible."
How did I get here?
"I started my career as an apprentice in mechanical engineering. This gave me the qualifications and introduction into engineering that I needed to begin. Over the 4 years of my apprenticeship I gained lots of skills and knowledge and worked in many different roles, including fitting equipment, testing systems and working in project management. After my apprenticeship I chose to work in problem-solving as a reliability engineer using all the skills I had learnt and I continue to develop everyday."
The life I live
"In my spare time I like to explore my creativity, I enjoy art and music and I play the flute and saxophone. I also sew and knit as well as drawing painting which were skills I developed at art school before I chose engineering. To stay healthy I like walking and cycling and I enjoy being outdoors in nature."
My typical day
"My typical day can vary, sometimes I work from home and sometimes I am in the office, I tend to alternate so I get a good balance. I enjoy being in the office as it is easier to see my colleagues and collaborate with them. I do the majority of my work at a computer, researching and gathering information, or analysing the data I already have. I run discussions with experts to help me solve difficult problems and am always available to help others where I can."
