About Obiye...

Who am I?

"The roles of Coach, Manager, and Quality Controller fit seamlessly with the nature of my work. In data analysis and project management, being a Coach helps me guide and mentor others, ensuring everyone on the team is aligned with the project's goals. The Manager aspect ensures that I can handle team management's logistical and motivational aspects, keeping projects on track and within scope. The Quality Controller role is vital in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the data, which is the backbone of my work. Together, these traits help me excel in my role, allowing me to manage teams effectively, ensure the highest quality of work, and create a positive impact on both my colleagues and the projects I undertake."

What do I do?

"In my job as a data researcher/analyst, I work with lots of information to help companies make smart decisions. Imagine a huge puzzle with thousands of pieces—my job is to find the right pieces and put them together to see the big picture. I use special computer programs to look at data, like numbers and facts, and turn them into easy-to-understand pictures or graphs. This helps my team see what’s working well and what needs to be improved. One of the most important things I do is help companies understand what their customers want. For example, if a company wants to know which of their products are the most popular, I look at the data to find out. Then, I share this information with the team so they can make better products or create new ideas. The outcome of my work is that companies can make better decisions, save money, and keep their customers happy. It feels great to know that the work I do helps businesses grow and succeed. What I enjoy most about my job is the problem-solving part. It’s like being a detective, figuring out clues to help solve a mystery. I also love how my job allows me to learn new things all the time—technology and data are always changing, so there’s always something new to discover. As for the starting salary, it can vary depending on where you live and the company you work for. On average, someone starting out as a data analyst might earn around £25,000 to £30,000 a year. As you gain more experience and skills, this can increase a lot over time."

How did I get here?

"The journey to my current role as a data analyst has been an exciting adventure full of learning and growth. It all started when I was in school, where I really enjoyed maths and science. I liked how numbers could explain so much about the world. This interest led me to study computer science at university, where I learned how to use computers to solve problems and work with data. After university, I got my first job as a Graduate Intern at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA). There, I worked on projects that involved analysing data from social media to understand what young people were interested in. This experience taught me how powerful data could be in understanding trends and making decisions.Next, I moved on to work at a company called Worklife Solutions Limited as a Data Analyst and Virtual Assistant. My job was to help the company move their work online during the COVID lockdown. This was a big challenge, but it taught me how to use data to make important decisions and keep the business running smoothly.Along the way, I was inspired by many people, especially my teachers and mentors who encouraged me to always keep learning and never give up, even when things got tough. They showed me that with hard work and dedication, I could achieve my goals. My love for problem-solving and my interest in technology and data pushed me to keep going, even when things were challenging. Each job I did helped me build new skills and gave me more confidence in my abilities. Now, as a data analyst, I use everything I’ve learned to help companies make smart decisions. It’s a role that challenges me every day, and I love that I’m constantly learning and growing. If you’re interested in this kind of work, remember that it’s okay to start small. Each step you take will bring you closer to your goals. And don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice from those who inspire you—they can make a big difference in your journey!"

The life I live

"In my spare time, I absolutely love cooking and baking. It’s a great way for me to unwind and get creative. Whether it's trying out new recipes or perfecting old favourites, being in the kitchen is one of my favourite ways to relax.Another thing I enjoy is spending quiet time in nature, especially at parks. I often go to a park by myself to read my Bible and reflect. My faith is very important to me, and I believe that God helps guide me through every step of my life. These peaceful moments give me a chance to connect with my spirituality and find clarity and peace. These are ways for me to recharge and stay grounded. Cooking, baking, and spending time in nature are all ways I keep balance in my life, and they bring me a lot of joy."

My typical day

"A typical day at work for me starts with checking and replying to emails to stay updated. I then focus on my current project, which often involves analysing data to guide decision-making and creating reports or presentations to clearly communicate findings. I also attend team meetings to discuss progress and next steps. Currently, I'm working on improving our sales tracking to identify trends and enhance future decision-making. I enjoy the variety in my job and the satisfaction of solving problems and contributing to the company's growth."

My qualifications

"After finishing my GCSEs, I pursued further education to build a strong foundation for my career. Here’s a simple overview of the steps I took:1. Bachelor’s Degree: I attended the Federal University of Technology in Minna, Nigeria where I earned a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science, focusing on Cyber Security Science with Distinction in October 2018. This degree helped me understand the basics of computers, its programming and protecting data from security threats.2. Master’s Degree: Next, I studied at Northumbria University in Newcastle, where I completed a Master’s in Data Science with Distinction in February 2023. This advanced degree focused on analysing data to make informed decisions and solve complex problems. These qualifications helped me gain the skills and knowledge needed for my current role, where I work with data to help my team and the company make better decisions."
