About Arathi...
Who am I?
"I think I link quite well into the coordinator and communicator personality types as I always make sure to listen to others and input everyone’s needs. I am patient and can work well with others by ensuring that everyone in the team is heard. Being open-minded to new ideas and criticism is also something which draws me closer to this personality. I am also quite organised and love to help others and guide them if needed. "
What do I do?
"The main thing I work on is medical education – providing information/resources to health care professionals through an organised and planned out manner where they keep wanting to use our sources. I work to drive traffic to different platforms that we have to offer and track the metrics to ensure we are on track. Raising awareness about specific therapy areas is very important and, in my case, I work to raise awareness of anti-microbial resistance and develop resources highlighting antifungal stewardship as well. I also help to build materials and organise programmes that our medical team and field team attend so they can talk with health care professionals and market our resources and products. I really enjoy the cross-functional aspect this job brings as I can work with a variety of colleagues who work in different fields such as the medical team, digital team, field team, and my commercial marketing team. Getting exposure to different roles and how it all links to achieve customer and patient satisfaction is very fulfilling. "
How did I get here?
"I started studying biomedical sciences at Newcastle university in 2021, and I had the opportunity last year to apply for a placement year where I could gain one year work experience. This was a very interesting opportunity to me and so I decided to apply to lab-based roles as well as commercial roles where I still would be able to use my scientific background. I have done internships at UN based organisations such as the UNAIDs before and have also interned and volunteered at hospitals. However, I think that this role looked more at the transferable skills I gained over the years. I was able to explain the skills I strengthened through different projects and volunteering experiences I had such as being a tutor, debate mentor, and participating in a science communications summer programme. I was inspired to apply for this role as I was curious as to what jobs I can have after my biomedical science degree. I did not want a traditional lab role and seeing other women in STEM such as my professors, motivated me to apply for business, commercial pharma roles. "
The life I live
"Even though I enjoyed the sciences growing up, I loved art and would paint/draw anytime I got. I then decided to go bigger and paint landscapes on large canvases and decided to try and sell them to raise funds for charity during school fairs. I was surprisingly able to sell and raise quite a lot and through that was able to support my mother with her non-governmental organisation. Debating is something else I enjoy doing and would participate in the Model United Nations and Student League of Nations. "
My typical day
"A typical day at work for me mainly revolves around meetings, planning and executing projects, replying to emails, and completing digital work. More specifically, I work a pharmaceutical marketing & omnichannel job, meaning I mainly focus on medical education and creating platforms and resources which are useful and efficient for healthcare professionals (HCPs) to use. Currently, I am working on building an online learning platform for HCPs to use which consists of recordings of webinars given by experts on antimicrobial stewardship. I also aim to drive traffic to these sources by sending out emails and creating reactive rep-triggered-emails which can be used by the field team who talk with HCPs and can invite them to learn more about the resources we have to offer. Apart from medical education, I am also working on getting the resources we want HCPs to have access to be approved by the medical and final signatory teams. The aim is to make HCPs more aware of the therapy areas we work on and to provide them with useful materials which can help them use our medicines better and provide a smoother patient experience. "
