About Tenele...

Who am I?

"My name is Tenele Khoza. I am a Maritime Engineer working for Atkins Realis. I am passionate about Maritime Engineering, and would love to see more females join the industry. "

What do I do?

"I work in projects that involve the design and construction of ports and harbours. "

How did I get here?

"I obtained a BSc in Civil Engineering and started working as a Site Engineer for a Maritime Contractor for 2 years. Then I took a break from working and went back to uni to further my studies through my Masters in Ports and Coastal Engineering for 2 years. From then till now (for the past 4 years), I have worked in the Maritime teams of 2 different Engineering consultancies."

The life I live

"I love spending quality time with my son and husband. We enjoy taking walks at the beach and exploring new places. I also love watching movies and series. "

My typical day

"On a typical day I start with reading my emails and planning the tasks that I will be prioritizing for that day. This will depend on the type of projects that I am involved in at the time, but I will usually need to attend meetings to discuss the projects and then I might have to use different programs and software to complete the tasks. I mostly write up Reports, compile design calculations, use AutoCAD, a program to model ships at the port, and many other fun activities at work."

My qualifications

"BSc. in Civil EngineeringMEng in Civil Engineering (Ports and Coastal Engineering)"
