About Jessica...

Who am I?

"I am a coach, influencer and trainer. I think in communications you've got to be able to listen to others whilst also having your voice heard. I've always enjoyed teaching others and find this is a great way for me to learn too."

What do I do?

"I create communication plans for various projects, so this means creating documents that highlight and assess our audience, the purpose of our communications and how we will measure the success. This will look very different depending on the type of project - are we launching a new service? Do we want to talk about an important business milestone? It changes all the time.I communicate with suppliers and people around the business to bring projects to life, this could mean writing articles, searching for data and statistics or organising an event. My job is very collaborative - which I love. The starting salary for a role like mine is around £30,000."

How did I get here?

"I have worked in lots of customer facing roles across retail and hospitality throughout my school/uni years and I think this helped shape me as a communicator. It teaches you about people, patience and planning!I found myself in communications after studying marketing at university and completing a placement in public relations."

The life I live

"I love walking and reading (fantasy is my favourite genre right now.) I love a funny podcast or a BBC drama. I enjoy running, going to the gym and looking after my dog. I love to organise/tidy and clean - I find it relaxing!"

My typical day

"Everyday is different! I start my day checking emails or catching up with colleagues, and then check my to-do list. I'll often have at least two meetings a day and so I will do any prep needed for those. Sometimes I'll have a draft article to send to my manager for approval, other days I'll be chipping away at a huge communications plan document, sometimes I'll be using my graphic design skills to make a presentation or graph look lovely!"

My qualifications

"Level 3 Diploma & Bachelor of Arts Degree."
