About Emma...

Who am I?

"I am a campaigner, communicator and investigator - I enjoy solving problems and working with a variety of people to help them achieve their objectives. Every day is a school day for me as I usually learn something new every day and enjoy the challenge of the mixture of the commercial with the legal."

What do I do?

"A large part of my role is advising on commercial contracts and commercial disputes. I also advise on compliance issues that the business might face and make sure that it operates within the law and the regulations. I sometimes advise on employee related matters and property matters but the overall aim of what I do is to protect the business.The starting salary for a lawyer varies greatly depending on the type of law and the geographical area. For a trainee lwyer you can earn £20-40k and for a Newly Qualified you can earn £30k to £50k"

How did I get here?

"GCSES, A-Levels, Law Degree in Queen's University (3 years) , Belfast and Legal Practice Course in Leeds (1 year). I trained in Kent, England for 2 years and then when qualified I returned to Northern Ireland and worked in a Law Firm for a year before moving into industry where I have worked for the past 20 years."

The life I live

"I am a runner but only started at 39 - I hated PE at school but managed to run my first marathon in 2021! "

My typical day

"I spend a lot of time on my computer writing email advice and reviewing contracts. I also attend meetings either in person or via teams with my internal clients to give them advice on a number of different matters. "
