About Louisa...
Who am I?
"My personality type fits me because I enjoy communicating with people about what I do, I also mentor and train young people to help them reach their potential."
What do I do?
"I design and develop cryogenic freezers, support the commercial team to market and sell the freezers, and most often travel to our customer's sites to offer advice on servicing and maintenance. The most enjoyable part of the job for me is problem solving because different issues might arise everyday and it is my responsibility to solve them."
How did I get here?
"I am motivated to learn how things are maufactured, so I did an industrial placement during my study at the University of Bath with a company called LANXESS Elastomers in the Netherlands, as a research scientist. After graduating from the University of Bath, I joined a different company called Robert Bion Ltd. as a Cost and Process Engineer to estimate the cost of producing materials such as plastics, stainless steel and aluminium. I then decided to pursue further education and did a PhD, during which I was also teaching, after my PhD I joined Air Products as a Development Engineer which I find really exciting and challenging."
The life I live
"I like to cook and enjoy exploring healthier food options."
My typical day
"I design cryogenic food freezers that are able to operate at high efficiency, reduce waste, minimise power consumption and carbon footprint. So a typical day involves going to the lab and carrying out experiments on the food freezers to determine their current efficiency, research new ways to improve the system and test again that these solutions work."
My qualifications
"Foundation degreeMasters in Engineering (MEng)Doctor of Philosophy(PhD) in Chemical Engineering"
